Ergoterapi i samspil

Occupational Therapy in Interaction with Multisensory Environments (MSE)

I am an occupational therapist with a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy and a particular professional interest in multisensory environments, Snoezelen, sensory stimulation and vocational rehabilitation. With more than 10 years of experience in both municipal and private rehabilitation services in Denmark and Norway, I have worked with individuals who are outside the labour market or who require support to maintain or return to work and education. Since 2021, I have worked with controlled sensory stimulation at Snoezelhuset Maribo, where I have, among other things, provided rehabilitation programmes for people on sick leave referred by municipal job centres. My work has focused on self-regulation, safety, activity balance, and the gradual rebuilding of function and participation in everyday and working life. I have many years of experience providing training and supervision to individuals, families and larger groups of professionals in the use of sensory rooms and controlled sensory stimulation. I have also worked with children and young people and delivered a webinar for members of the Danish Association of Occupational Therapists on Snoezelen and related topics. I work from a holistic occupational therapy perspective, where humans are influenced by their surroundings. My professional focus is on how sensory experiences, activities, environments and relationships within the sensory room may contribute to well-being, rehabilitation and participation in everyday life. My ambition with SopoSensory is to contribute to the development of how multisensory environments are used – from the physical space and its design to the professional approach, the intervention and the way the environment is used. My Professional Approach For me, a sensory room is not simply a room with lights, sounds and different sensory stimuli. It is a framework that can be used intentionally and professionally to promote safety, calm, self-determination, increased quality of life, and greater opportunities for participation in social activities and everyday life. That's why I'm focused on making sure that multisensory environments are used with a clear professional purpose, based on the best evidence, and that sensory stimulation is aimed at the individual person's needs and resources.
